Region Three entrepreneurs encouraged to take advantage of small business opportunities -as 32 complete Success in Business workshop
Georgetown, Guyana – (June 23, 2018) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, yesterday, attended the closing ceremony of the fifth Self-Reliance in Business Workshop for 2018, where 32 persons successfully completed the one-week programme, which was held at the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region (Region Three) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom.
The First Lady, in her brief remarks to the participants, said that she hopes the training will help them to become well-rounded individuals as she also urged them to use the certificates received to approach the micro financing entities as well as the Small Business Bureau (SBB) of the Ministry of Business, to access loans and grants to aid their entrepreneurial ventures. “I would like to think that through this training you have received, you will be better organised and more positive about succeeding in your plans to open and to improve your businesses,” she said.
Mrs. Granger expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Social Protection and Interweave Solutions for their commitment to ensuring that the workshop is successfully executed throughout Guyana. She also took the opportunity to commend the Regional Democratic Council for the support given during the course of the workshop.
Meanwhile, Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Denis Jaikaran, committed to meeting with the team leaders of the five groups that were formed by the participants of the workshop to discuss how the Region can assist them in developing their community action plans. “We have to make this a reality …We have to stop coming to seminars or workshops, take notes and leave without taking action,” he said.
Mr. Yohann Sanjay Pooran, Facilitator at Interweave Solutions Incorporated, gave an outline of the areas covered during the workshop and advised the participants to use the certificates and the knowledge they gained to contribute to the developing the Region.
Several participants expressed their appreciation for the experience they have been afforded and expressed enthusiasm to apply the skills in their daily lives. Ms. Selima Ally conveyed her gratitude to the First Lady for coordinating the programme. “… I can now become a businesswoman [in] today’s society. It [the workshop] was very motivational… For my community [action plan], we decided to create a group, which is called the Progressive Women Interest. We want to empower women… to fight against domestic violence and teenage pregnancy. And [with] my business also, I want to create jobs for young persons,” she said.
