Region Three exhibitors, patrons laud R.A.C.E.

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, April 22, 2018

Exhibitors and patrons at the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara 2018 Regional Agricultural and Commercial Exhibition (R.A.C.E.), at the National Track and Field Ground, Leonora on April 21, commended the Regional Administration and the Regional Chambers of Commerce for hosting the event.

The exhibitors and patrons made their commendation to the Department of Public Information.

“This expo is a good exposure for various businesses in the region and I encourage Guyanese to come out and support expos like these,” Chief Executive Officer of Cheereemee Marketing Agency, Belinda Persaud said.

Persaud’s business provides advertisement for rural artists in Regions Three, Four, Five and Nine. Since travelling poses a challenge for them to showcase and advertise their products, the expo provided a great opportunity for her to promote her business, she said.

A representative for the Women’s Agro-Processors Development Network (WADN), Jennifer Spencer said the group were there to raise awareness about the group’s objective of representing women in agro-processing throughout the regions in Guyana.

She said that WADN looks forward “to more exhibitions like this, not only in this region but throughout Guyana. Because the idea of R.A.C.E. is about bringing awareness to each community, so people will know what is happening in Guyana.” She observed that more expos are needed since “a lot of locals are not au-fait with what Guyana is offering in the agro-processing sector. So, I think it is good.”

Nona Khan, owner of Nona’s Fabric Creative Designs explained she is a housewife and utilises her creative skills to customise souvenirs and design children’s clothing as a hobby. The Georgetown resident explained that she capitalises on various expositions across the country to advertise her work.

“I depend on these exhibitions to share out my business cards…and I will be going to the UNCAPPED expo at the stadium next Saturday (April 28). I hope they have more exhibitions like this on the West Coast and persons would see my products,” said Khan.

Patron, Rachel John thought the event was “very exciting; there are a lot of products that Guyana is showcasing. I think it is very good that Guyanese are coming out with their own stuff, and there are a lot of people here supporting this activity despite the rain.”

Over 70 booths were occupied at RACE with various businesses exhibiting their local products ranging from crops and livestock, crafts, food, spices, clothing, furniture, herbs and various services to name a few.

The Regional Agriculture and Commercial Exhibition is part of the government’s vision that is geared towards showcasing and promoting local businesses, particularly those involved in agro-processing. It is also expected to connect producers and consumers while improving and expanding trade opportunities in the ten regions in Guyana.
