Region Three students excited about new school term

DPI, Guyana, Monday, September 3, 2018

The Department of Public Information (DPI) joined students of Region Three on one of the David G buses, as they travelled from Vreed-en-Hoop to Patentia, on their way to school this morning.

The students from Patentia Secondary, L’Aventure Secondary, West Demerara Secondary among others were in good spirit and excited about the starting their first day of school.

Crystal McDonald of the Patentia Secondary said, “I am feeling nervous because this is my first time coming back to school”. However, McDonald noted that she could not wait to be reunited with her friends.

Entering the second form was Shaquille Beaton also of Patentia Secondary who said she was excited to be entering a new class. Amani Adams said the plan for the new academic year is “Study more, learn more and work harder.”

The driver of the David G school bus, Robert Williams said ensuring the students reach to school brings him joy. “Picking these kids up is one of the best things that I like doing, picking them up and taking them to school,” Williams said, adding that “I get a good feeling because like taking these kids to schools, they are nice kids so I enjoy taking them to school.”

Schools countrywide opened today for both public and private schools and students are eager for the new school term despite the Guyana Teachers Union’s (GTU) strike action which saw the attendance of some teachers.
