Minister of State, Joseph Harmon and Cuba’s Vice Foreign Minister, Rogelio Sierra Diaz last evening during a cocktail reception reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to further strengthening the over 45 years of friendship.

The reception was hosted by Minister Harmon, who is currently performing the duties of Foreign Affairs Minister, at the Herdmanston Lodge. The State Minister said since formal ties were established between Guyana and Cuba the relationship has been strengthened beyond the political.

“We believe that it is the people of our two countries that really make this relationship a good one,” he said.

The State Minister expressed Government’s willingness to provide assistance to Cuban nationals in a similar fashion as Cuba has extended the hand of friendships to Guyanese nationals.

Cuba’s Foreign Minister thanked Minister Harmon for the warm welcome and praised the country for its continued support. He said one of the goals of his state visit is to demonstrate Cuba’s unwavering will to strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

The minister said too that the Caribbean Community will continue to have priority as Cuba develops.

“The Presidency has changed but Cuban foreign policy is still the same,” Minister Diaz assured.

Minister of Citizenship Winston Felix, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Audrey Waddell and other local and Cuban officials were in attendance.
