Replay screen for Women’s World T20 to arrive tonight

One of the prerequisites for the hosting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World T20 in Guyana is that of a replay screen. With just a just over a week left before the action starts, it was announced that the replay screen is slated to arrive in the country tonight.

This was disclosed by Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sports Dr. George Norton to media operatives at a press conference. Once the screen arrives in Guyana, it is expected to be installed at the National Stadium by November 3. The replay screen was acquired at a cost of just over $24Million (US $116,000).

Minister Norton explained that one of the main reasons for the delay in acquiring the relay screen was due to the fact that many of the private corporations wanted to brand the National Stadium before they invested. However, the government declined those offers. According to Minister Norton, Guyana was awarded the bid to host the games since the National Stadium has been deemed one of the cleanest in the Caribbean; meaning that it is not branded.

The tournament commences on November 9 and concludes on November 24, 2018. Guyana will host a total of 11 games, including three on the opening day of the tournament.

The 10-team tournament, will feature host and defending champions the West Indies, three-time champions Australia, reigning ICC Women’s World Cup winners England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ireland.
