DPI, GUYANA, Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Head, Department of Environment, Ndibi Schwiers is urging persons to desist from lighting fires in the Botanical Gardens, following several complaints.

Schwiers said the Department suspects that these malicious acts are being carried out by vagrants and other persons.

The DoE is working with the Protected Areas Commission (PAC) and the National Parks Commission (NPC) to ensure that citizens are informed of the importance of the Gardens.

The Department is requesting that the public respect public spaces and understand the rationale for having the spaces constructed the way they are.

Persons witnessing these acts are being asked to make urgent contact with the Department. This action can result in loss of life and limb and is also illegal.

Schwiers also warned that those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
