̶ 95+ students and educators rewarded for excellence in education
̶ Winfer Gardens Primary adjudged the most outstanding Primary School for 2019

Close to 100 students and teachers were rewarded for their sterling accomplishments by the Department of Education-Georgetown on Friday. Spearheading the activity was District Education Officer, Sherwin Blackman.
Among the honours received were Special Recognition Awards for performance at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). Top Performers, like 2019’s NGSA top male, Dave Chowtie who hails from Graham’s Hall Primary School, were rewarded for this academic achievement. Other awardees include Angel Devrel, Cleanna Brummel and Aquil Elcock.
Receiving the award for NGSA Top Performing Schools in Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies was Winfer Gardens Primary School which copped the ‘Most Outstanding Performance at NGSA’ award. The Most Improved School at NGSA was St Sidwell’s Primary.
Several students enlisted in the 2018-2019 Transition Programme which is facilitated at St. George’s High School, New Campbellville Secondary School, Cummings Lodge Secondary School, Houston Secondary School, Lodge Secondary School, Tucville Secondary School, Queenstown Secondary School and St. Winfried’s Secondary School were also rewarded for their good performance throughout the last academic year.
Chief Education Officer, Dr. Marcel Hutson encouraged the students to continue to strive for academic excellence and applauded teachers for their continual effort to improve and develop students’ academic performance.
Gavin Joseph from the Sophia Special School took the prize for outstanding SCCP student. The Secondary Competency Certificate Programme (SCCP) seeks to improve students’ attendance, reduce school dropouts, boost equity and enhance quality and relevance in the area of technical and vocational education at the Grade 9 and Grade 10 levels.
Additionally, awards were distributed for Special Recognition for CSEC and CAPE performance along with top performers in both examinations.
The award for the Most Improved Senior Secondary School was won by St. Rose’s High School while the Most Improved Junior Secondary School went to Houston Secondary School.
Special Awards were also distributed for the JOF Haynes Debating Competition 2019 and to the Head Teacher of Kingston Practical Instruction Centre (PIC), as well as Retired Teachers and Staff of the Ministry of Education’s placement Unit and Student Welfare Department.
