Rupanau laud revamped education system

― Min. Henry reminds more in store for hinterland education

Rupanau residents are witnessing increasing improvement in the education performance of students at the nursery and primary levels.

Commenting on the improved results in this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), teacher of the Rupanau Primary School, “Miss Sardo” explained that the parents and teachers alike are confident of even better results next year. She also applauded the Guyana Education Sector Improvement Project (GESIP) crediting the programme for the improvement.

The school is looking forward to receiving ICT upgrades, an aspect of GESIP. Ninety-one children are schooled in the Deep South Rupununi Village.

Education Minister, Hon. Dr. Nicolette Henry, speaking to residents of the Indigenous community, said that the hinterland will continue to be targeted for improvement. According to the minister, this will continue to bridge the gap in education delivery between coastal schools and hinterland schools.

Several hinterland regions and schools have reported significant improvement in examination results following the 2019 NGSA and CSEC examinations.

Hinterland schools continue to receive immense support from government ministries, including the Ministry of Education and Public Telecommunications.

In 2019, the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo Region benefitted from a brand-new Smart Classroom, and new nursery and primary schools. More development is in the pipeline for the region.
