DPI, Guyana, Thursday, April 12, 2018

Interest among agro-processors and other entrepreneurs for the second annual Essequibo Agro and Trade Expo, scheduled for April 19-22, has increased when compared to the numbers for 2017. This is according to President of the Essequibo Chambers of Commerce, Deleep Singh.

President of the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce, Deleep Singh.

Singh made the announcement during a visit today by the Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin, to the Pomeroon-Supenaam region.

The Chambers of Commerce president disclosed that over 80 groups have indicated interest in participating in the event. However, 60 booths have been confirmed to date. Singh said he hopes to see more groups confirming booths before next week.

He explained that the main focus of the Expo is to aid in the development of trade within the region and to showcase their products to those attending from outside Region Two.

“We have organised the Expo to promote Essequibo as a lucrative place to do business, to have trade done and to showcase what we are producing. It is a place where buyers and sellers will meet…hopefully, the economic spin-off can be enormous to benefit our people here,” Singh said.

The two-day event will feature value-added produce, including rice and other agro-processed products and will also feature a segment where persons with the best crop or livestock booths will be awarded prizes.

Singh believes the Expo will also serve as a tool to boost tourism in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region and Guyana on a wider scale.
