Small Business Focus – Computing Core: providing affordable software solutions for local businesses

DPI, Guyana, Friday, August 30, 2019

Local software developer and entrepreneur Carlos De Cunha and his wife, Loreena had for several years toyed with the idea for a venture before biting the bullet and taking the decision to get registered and open their business Computing Core.

Speaking with the Department of Public Information (DPI) De Cunha explained how their business venture initially began.  “We started very basically, by offering just technical services. PC repairs networking and stuff like that. However, in 2016 we changed our focus and we began software development” he said.

The primary focus of this young couple’s business is ‘business type’ software mainly Point of Sale and Inventory Management software.

According to De Cunha, as a software developer, he works long with various businesses to create software tailored to suit for their specific needs. “Any type of store, no matter what you’re selling, you will need a point-of-sale system, which will have primary functions. Number one will be to print bills for your customers, so they have a nice-looking bill. So, from that module you’ll be able to track your daily sales and your monthly sales, apart from that it also tracks your stock.”

Loreena De Cunha has the responsibility of being the Inventory Manager.  “From time to time you find that you order too much of something that’s not selling or you order too little of something that is a fast seller so these are the things we try to explain to the client so they can understand the benefits of having the software in their company,” she told DPI.

Because of the high cost of business software locally, the company has created a Small Business software called Micro POS, which small ventures can afford and with the relevant support system.

“I was always inclined to create this software package. We ensured that is affordable for any micro or small business that’s starting up, and it’s a once time cost so there are no recurring fees for the customer. They do not need to worry about costly software overheads,” De Cunha said.

Apart from the small business software the company also offers a payroll software, called ‘Easy Pay’ and a restaurant touch screen software.  “We also released a touch screen software for use in fine dining restaurants and other food places. It’s a touch screen system so it works perfect for those fast-paced environments where you have a steady flow of customers coming in and you need to just print a bill quickly,” De Cuhna explained.

Meanwhile, Computing Core also recently launched a new software product that allows clients to keep track of their business online. According to De Cuhna, “you can use it on any type of device even a smartphone if that’s all you have. So, if you’re a small business operator and you’re now starting out and you don’t have the equipment yet… if all you have is a smartphone, you can start your work.” He says.

With their affordable software products, Computing Core aims to make transacting business easier for both the owners and customers
