Smart Stop for Mabaruma

The Municipality of Mabaruma has just erected a modern environmentally-friendly smart stop (bus shed) in the Kumaka area; a busy business hub in the municipality.

The structure signifies a step towards modernising and developing the township in a technological age, where residents of this beautiful town can access free Wi-Fi and charge their phones.

Before the erection of the Smart Stop, residents reported that they paid various businesses to have their devices charged.

However, they can now easily access the service at the Smart Stop free of cost. Students can also conduct online research instead of persons having to purchase a data plan.

The move by the municipality to construct the smart stop will also erase certain culture shocks owing to the technological and other gaps that exist between residents on the hinterland as against the coast.

Not only does the modern bus stops benefit nationals but migrants from Venezuela are also flocking to the facility daily. Town Clerk (ag) Maria Basheer spoke to several Venezuelan migrants who expressed delight at the fact that they now have the freedom to communicate with their families back home.

One of the migrants conveyed thanks to the municipality for undertaking the venture which allows her to charge her phone free of charge.
