Social Cohesion Ministry’s costume band features national colours, symbols
DPI, GUYANA, Monday, February 19, 2018
Staying true to its agenda, the Ministry of Social Cohesion, on Monday afternoon, launched its Mashramani 2018 costume band resplendent in national colours depicting unity and cooperation.
At the launch held at the E.R. Burrowes School of Art, Carifesta Avenue, Minister of Social Cohesion Dr. George Norton thanked the students and teachers of the Art Institute for their ingenuity in creating this year’s costumes for his ministry.
It was highlighted that there was a conscious effort to utilise national colours since it serves as a reminder to all Guyanese to appreciate and celebrate our own culture.
The King of the Band costume will feature national symbols such as the Victoria Regia Lily among others; while the Queen of the Band will be a complement to him with depictions such as the Hibiscus and the Humming Bird. Both costumes are also reflecting the natural beauty of the country.
Minister Norton indicated that he is looking forward to joining the Social Cohesion’s band of 300 revellers as they take to the road for the grand Mashramani Float Parade on February 23.
