Some rejected ballots now valid “once intention is clear” – GECOM PRO

As the recount process for the March 2 General and Regional E proceeds it was disclosed today that some of the once rejected ballots will now be deemed valid once the intention of the voter is clear.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Yolanda Ward told members of the media that decision was made by the commissioners today.

Citing an example Ward said: “in those cases where the elector marked on the symbol or on the side of the box, those are valid ballots. So, if it was rejected at the place of count then we have the opportunity here to correct that particular instance.”

The PRO also noted that the importance of not only focusing on the ballots in the box but also those envelopes with rejected ballots.

At noon today (day five0 a total of 32 boxes were completed during the recount process – seven boxes for region one, six for Region two, 10 for Region three and nine for Region Four. At the close of the recount yesterday, there were 156 ballot boxes completed.
