South African High Commissioner accredited

New non-resident High Commissioner of South Africa to Guyana, Maureen Modiselle today presented her letters of Credence to President Donald Ramotar as the two countries seek to further strengthen bilateral relations.

High Commissioner Modiselle who is stationed in Jamaica, hails from Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and is the holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Healthcare Administration and three Diplomas in nursing, midwifery and public relations respectively.

President Ramotar said that Guyana has shared a very close relationship with South Africa for many years. In the 70s and 80s, Guyana played a leadership role in the solidarity movement with the anti-apartheid and national liberation struggle in Southern Africa.

Under the leadership of the present government, Guyana has had ties with South Africa at the multi-lateral and bilateral levels.

 

Recently, Guyana established an embassy in South Africa, which the Government hopes will further enhance the traditional friendship and lead to economic trade relations.
