South Amelia’s Ward to establish Community Development Council – as work begins to fix road

Residents of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden are soon to commence a community drain cleaning project.
This follows a May 15 visit by Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes and Regional Chairman Rennis Morian. The Minister and her team initially conducted an assessment of the community’s Oval Well Road.
It was determined that the due to poor drainage conditions and erosion over the years the road had deteriorated. Morian said the Regional Democratic Council, took the decision to finance 15 residents with the sum of $300,000 to have the drains cleared.
South Amelia’s Ward in Linden, Region Ten will also be establishing a Community Development Council. The body will oversee the infrastructural developments in the community.
A resident of Amelia’s Ward Ewin Dawson, agreed with the establishment of a body to oversee community work. Dawson said that the residents of South Amelia ‘s Ward have been neglected for years, but now “have a voice.” He further added, “I am elated to see my Minster is here to give us the assurance that once we work as a community everything is possible within this government.”
According to Minister Broomes, the previous Community Development Council “fell apart due to skullduggery under the previous administration.” She assured the residents that once they have established themselves, the administration will ensure they receive the necessary support.
The squatting community, which home to hundreds of families, is also in the process of being regularised.
