DPI, Guyana, Friday, July 14, 2017

The first stop during an official state visit from the Ambassador designate of Spain to Guyana was to Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre on Thursday evening.

The Ambassador, Javier Carbajosa Schanez, and his delegation made their way to the Centre directly from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) despite a delayed flight.

The residents of the Centre stayed up past their bedtime to greet the dignitaries with songs and poetry.

Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Latin America, Fernando Garcia Casas, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that he was impressed with the tour of the facility.

“Through our Honorary Consul I asked him to look for an institution doing wonderful social care and social work and I believe we are deeply impressed from what we saw,” Casas said.

Casas was so moved by the recital of a poem by one of the young residents that he collected her signature on the poem she read and gifted his watch to her.

Rehabilitation Officer -in- Charge of the Centre, Cynthia Massay, said visits like these are good promotion for the work the Centre does. “We will be able to get that kind of publicity so that persons are aware of this Centre and what the Centre does,” she told DPI.
