DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, August 8, 2018
Spin twins of Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul last evening displayed their skills during the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) second warm-up match in the Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament.
The match saw the Warrior’s camp divided into two teams Emrits’s XI and Malik’s XI.
The duo of Bishoo and Permaul bagged a total of six wickets for 47 runs from eight overs, against Emrits’s XI at the Guyana National Stadium. Bishoo, during his four overs, took three wickets for a mere 23 runs while Permaul took three wickets for 24 runs.
The skipper of the Malik’s XI, Shoaib Malik and Luke Ronchi also showed excellent form. The batsmen dominated the opposing bowlers with Malik scoring 37 runs while Ronchi notched up an unbeaten 48 to steer the side to a comfortable win. Emrits’s XI scored a total of 133 runs which was achieved by Malik’s XI in just 16 overs, however, the team continued and posted 156 runs to complete the 20 overs.
Head Coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Johan Botha addressing the media after the match said that he was impressed with the teams’ performance during the course of the two warm-up matches. According to Botha, the performance by the team has made it easy to select a 12-member team heading into the first match.
“It was good to see Luke Ronchi take it all the way through, that is good, you cannot practice that in the nets. That is stuff that happens in games and it was good to Shoaib have another good hit” Botha said. He opined that this bodes well for the Warriors heading into Thursday’s game against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Other young players like Kemo Paul, Shimron Hetmyer and Australian Chris Green were also given props by the head coach. Hetmyer in the first warmup match scored a solid 66 runs.
