The Guyana Karate Federation (GKF), today, benefitted from a timely donation of sports equipment from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

President of the Guyana Karate Federation (GKF), Amir Khouri and team receive a donation from Director of Sport, Christopher Jones

The presentation of the gear was held at the NSC boardroom on Friday

In brief remarks, Director of Sport, Christopher Jones said the donation forms part of the department’s objective to assist various sport associations.

“We hope that this equipment can be used to further those athletes, in their pursuits and of course this is not a one-off donation to the federation but rather it is a start. Whatever additional assistance that is needed, equipment or otherwise the National Sports Commission is willing to lend support.”

The Sport Director noted that once a request is made in a timely manner, the department will be able to honour it.

President of the Guyana Karate Federation, Amir Khouri in expressing his appreciation said: “We will use it towards the development of the sport of karate. The Guyana Karate Federation falls under the World Karate Federation (WKF), and this equipment is WKF approved so this will go a long way especially when we send teams abroad. They will need WKF approved equipment to compete and this will help them… it will also be used in our local tournaments,” Khouri said.

This donation is one of many the National Sports Commission has undertaken this year. The department falls under the purview of the Ministry of Social Cohesion, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport.
