The Social and Economic Committee commissioned by President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency, Mohamed Irfaan Ali has been tasked with ensuring that COVID-19 relief and interventions are sustainable and reaches the people who are in need.

During an airing of the NCN programme ‘Government in Focus’, Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony highlighted that initial assessments have proven that the onset of COVID-19 has affected many lives in several ways.

ā€œThe committee will be looking at how we can provide relief to the people who need it, along with a set of structures and incentives we can put in place to bring relief to people.ā€

He disclosed that the committee will begin working shortly and will craft several relief measures to assist those affected by the pandemic.

The Health Minister has acknowledged that there are several organisations, both the private and public, that have exercised efforts to provide relief to affected communities.

He noted that continued collaboration with these organisations to execute the sustainable approach is also being sought after.

Additionally, Minister Anthony said:

ā€œThe president also announced that we have mobilised financial resources, some of which will be used for these purposes.ā€
