‘Swift Shipping’ growing into major revenue earner for GPOC

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, February 22, 2018

Persons living throughout Guyana are already benefiting from the Guyana Post Office Corporation’s (GPOC) new online shopping mailbox service.

Swift Shipping Online Mailbox service.

Swift Shipping Online Mailbox Service was launched just over a year ago in collaboration with Kardel Enterprises located in Miami, Florida – the warehouse service provider.

Telesha Whyte, Public Relations Officer (PRO), GPOC, told members of the media in a recent press conference that the response from the public has been “tremendous.”

Swift Shipping caters for persons who are desirous of shopping online but do not have the relevant billing and shipping address. Whyte noted that there are international suppliers and companies who do not offer international shipping and as such, persons do not know how to get their items directly to Guyana.

Swift Shipping provides a Miami based mailbox for customers to use.

The GPOC has implemented this new project on the pillars of affordability, flexibility and a friendly data management system.

“Our strengths as it relates to this mailbox service are our geographical locations. It’s young and has the capacity to expand,” PRO said. The GPOC’s post offices reach over sixty-five (65) locations in Guyana.

“So, persons who want to shop on-line in Bartica, Kwakwani or Moleson creek, they can use swift shipping to deliver their items to Guyana and pick it up at their nearest post office,’ Whyte explained.

Additionally, swift shipping has over 900 customers and attracts a lot of sole traders and ships items such as televisions, car parts, confectionary, electronics, cosmetics and clothing.

In outlining future plans the PRO disclosed that the GPOC intends to start an ocean cargo service shortly. According to Whyte, the post office will be also be establishing online shopping centres since there have been calls from customers who “don’t want to risk shopping online.”

The GPOC believes that due to their strengths they will become the dominant factor in Guyana’s online shipping sector.

Approximately forty percent of GPOC’s overall revenue can be accredited to the online mailbox service. Online shopping is not only the future of the GPOC but is also part of future postal administrations throughout the world.
