“We are here not just to listen to you but to assess your needs and address them.”

This was the commitment made by Minister of Social Cohesion, Hon. Dr. George Norton when he met with residents of in the Lower Kariabo area of Barima-Waini, Region 1.

During a community engagement, Minister Norton noted that as the various ministries continue to deliver on projects and programmes, government ministers and heads of various agencies continue to visit far-flung communities to work with village leaders to meet the needs and address what he described as “low hanging fruits”.

He explained that issues are identified then assessed before being addressed based on priority. Minster Norton further clarified that after matters have been prioritised, they are then categorised for short, medium or even long-term intervention.

There are some things we can do in the long term, some things we can do immediately,” he assured.

Villagers and their leaders were reminded of the need to meet to discuss what works best for their community. They were also told to ensure a proposal is submitted to the relevant officials who will work towards having the identified request delivered promptly.

During his interaction with the residents of the Lower Kariabo area, Minister Norton gathered pertinent information which he will take to Cabinet to have the relevant ministers address the issues identified.
