‘The Avenue of Honors’ gets great reviews

Staying true to his innovative and creative side, Jamal Adams, like any other inspired artist, spent two weeks brainstorming possible ideas to add to the natural beauty of Main Street Avenue, Georgetown after a pleasant stroll.

“One day, I was walking down Main Street, and I was basically taking in the beauty of Main street and its entire surrounding. I thought to myself that we should do something that can basically elevate this significant area in Georgetown,” he told the Department of Public Information (DPI).

The artistic project is to take form along the median stretch of Main Street, from its entry point at the Church Street intersection, to the Lamaha Street intersection. With the design displaying the Cacique’s Crown of Honour across a glistening terrazzo floor, it is said to be safe for all during the rainy season.

Dubbing his idea ‘The Avenue of Honors’, Adams explained that this initiative shows his appreciation of the country’s natural beauty while honouring the great people of this nation. The 33-year old said once the idea was complete, he needed the response from the public to move on to the next step towards materialising the project.

While Adams had expected that uploading the image to Facebook would secure a few reshares, it took on a life of its own after being reshared by Director of Sport, Christopher Jones.

“I thought that I would have gotten a couple reshare, but when the Director of Sport, Christopher Jones reshared it over 1,000 shares for this project, it was overwhelming. Actually, it exceeded my expectations… he even called me to respond to the messages he was receiving about this project. It was a happy moment,” Adams noted.

According to Adams, various ministers and directors have contacted him to come on board with this project, which he believes is a good start for the arts industry. He noted that there is no secret the arts society in the country is not appreciated as it should.

Also, an author and public servant, he said that the interest shown will help him bring forth more innovative and creative projects which will inspire and motivate fellow Guyanese.

As for ‘The Avenue of Honors, Adams said that he is optimistic that all is in place for this project to take form and Guyanese will soon have a definite answer about it.

“It [The Avenue of Honors] is for the greater good. It is not just something that will make Jamal Adams look good, but the country, as a whole. I know that it will make Guyana look good and it will definitely make Guyanese look good,” he said. With this push, Adams has begun working on other different ideas; however, materialising it is of concern to him.

Since he began his writing career in 2012, Adams has published eight books which include three self-development books, three children books, and one autobiography. He has also created the Guyanese Alphabet Chart which depicts the country’s historical landmarks and places of interest.
