The Civil Defense Commission and UNICEF response to influx of migrants from Venezuela into Guyana
Georgetown, Guyana, 2nd August, 2018 – The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will be prepositioning relief supplies for enhancing the capacity of Regions 1, 7 & 9 to provide basic assistance to meet the initial needs of the displaced population as the situation of the influx of Venezuelans into Guyana increases.
Relief supplies for Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene are being procured within Guyana to the value of US $30,000 (GY $ 6,226,562). The CDC deploy the relief supplies within the coming weeks to the Regional Administrations for storage and distribution. The relief supplies would benefit an estimated sixty (60) families per region with a total number of persons benefitting estimated at 900.
In partnership with UNICEF, the CDC remains committed to building Guyana’s disaster risk management capabilities through stakeholder engagement.
