The good life has begun- Min. Adams-Yearwood

―Residents of Bamia/Amelia’s Ward to soon receive land titles

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, May 1, 2019

Minister within Ministry of Agriculture with responsibility for Rural Affairs, Valerie Adams-Yearwood has assured residents who are currently living within the Bamia/Amelia’s Ward areas, Region 10 that they will soon receive their respective land titles,

The announcement was made on April 30 following the ‘Government comes to you’ outreach in the region.

Minister Adams-Yearwood said as a fellow resident she is aware of the issues affecting the region, which she assured will be addressed. In this vein, she encouraged the residents to speak up about the issues facing them, for solutions to be reached particularly related to housing matters.

“We will address this issue … as you may not know there are over 2000 applications dating as far back 1993 in the system. Since we came into government in 2015 many have been able to receive house and land titles.”

The former Minister with responsibility for Housing noted that the government will continue to work to address the housing situation.  She pointed out that several applications from persons within the region are presented with incorrect information leading to a delay. However, the minister did assure them that once the necessary adjustments are made and relevant steps taken, residents will soon be in receipt of titles to their own houses or lands.

Landowners were also encouraged to clear their empty plots of land and erect fences and buildings where necessary.  “Put down a structure as a start. Your Government has  spent money to ensure people are living in proper conditions through infrastructural development which looks at drainage and irrigation and so on,” noting that the agency is currently in talks with the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission to allocate lands in Amelia’s Ward for those who have applied.
