The Music, Message and Meaning of Christmas

−Christian Core Group and DOSC host Christmas programme

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, December 12, 2019

December is here and with it all the happiness of Christmas – the smell of pepper pot and baked goods wafting in the air and the usual mad dash to get the last-minute details.

But what is the real meaning of Christmas?

For the Christian Core Group attached to the Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport it is a time of great joy because it is when they celebrate the birth of Christ and the message he brought.

Pastor Ronald McGarrell head of the group told DPI that they will be hosting a free concert on Saturday, December 14, at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) to “celebrate the life of the greatest man that lived on this earth and who gave his life so that many can live free from sin.”

The event themed “The Music; The Message; The Meaning of Christmas” is open to persons of all religious persuasions.

Another member of the core group, Reverend Colleen Anthony, said the audience will be “blow-away” with the programme, adding that they will see a large group of artistes from various churches across Guyana, dramatic pieces, dances, poems and much more.

“We are going to showcase the love of Christ through these wonderful pieces,” she said.

The group hopes to make this an annual event.
