DPI, Guyana, Thursday, June 20, 2019

Guyana is expected to continue its upward trajectory in the future, this is according to Finance Minister Winston Jordan.

The Minister was at the time addressing residents of Bartica during a community meeting held on June 18.

He urged Barticans and all Guyanese to read and expose themselves to greater content in order to understand the social, political and cultural environment in which they live.

“You must be able to understand what is going on because if you don’t know somebody else is going to write your history for you,” Jordan said.

This statement was in response to the Government’s call for youths to be cognisant of the promising reality of their future with the onset of oil production in Guyana and therefore take up the mantle of responsibility.

According to Jordan by 2022, Guyana will be producing up to 500,000 barrels daily totalling in excess of approximately $210 Billion (US $1Billion) annually in revenue that will benefit all Guyanese.

Minister Jordan while highlighting that the Coalition Government is an administration for all pointed out that even in areas that do not have coalition support, developmental projects are still afoot.

“You know areas based on both the Local Government and General Elections that did not vote for this Coalition Government but you can see the development that has taken place in those communities attesting to the fact that this government is a government for all the people,” he reiterated.

He added that in its tenure, this government has ‘worked way too hard’ to create and sustain a cohesive society to let any person, organisation or group destroy that cohesive fabric.

In addition to the existing development, the Finance Minister reminded that “there [are] so many investments that you can look forward to” including the new bridge over the Demerara River to link Regions Three and Four, the Linden-Lethem road, and easy access to every Region among other projects.

Minister Jordan also maintained the position of President David Granger in his call to ensure that free and fair elections are held when the Guyana Elections Commission states that it is ready to hold said elections.
