Tiger Bay children benefit from back-to-school initiative

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, August 25, 2018

As children living in Rosemary Lane, Tiger Bay prepare for a new semester they have once again benefitted from contributions made by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and Guyana Police Force (GPF).

This back-to-school initiative, which was held at Tiger Bay Tarmac, provided the children with necessary school supplies including bags, uniforms, books and water bottles among other items.

In brief remarks, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles, Managing Director, GWI said he is happy to be part of this initiative that assists in the development of young children. He also pledges to continue to support the project.

“We (GWI) believe that the future of Guyana rests with how we invest in our young people; therefore, it is part of our corporate responsibility to become involved in projects such as this which invest in the future of Guyana,” the Managing Director said.

He also noted that along with the assistance of their parents and the community as a whole the children must be encouraged to achieve their dreams.

Dr. Van West-Charles asked the children to encourage others to follow in their footsteps as they strive for excellence in their education. He also called on them to play a role in conserving water within their respective households.

In his remarks, Assistant Commissioner Clifton Hicken said that the young people within Tiger Bay have the potential to develop and make the country proud and challenged them to excel in their studies. The Commissioner even offered an incentive to motivate the children.

“This is a commitment from us, if four children can top their grades within the upcoming term… they will have a trip along with their parents to the Kaieteur Falls free of cost… so this will help to motivate you all to work hard … we will do everything possible to have you build a better for Tiger Bay and country, as a whole,” Hicken said.
