Toka experienced much development under Coalition Govt

Residents of the North Rupununi village of Toka were enthusiastic in expressing their appreciation to the Coalition administration for what they described as keen interest and development seen in a short space of time.

On Sunday morning, the residents met with the Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Raphael Trotman, for a planned meeting at the Toka Community Centre Ground.

Getting off to a prompt start, residents publicly placed their support behind the Coalition government, stating that it is the best bet for the continued development of Guyana.

“This government is different; they are educating our people,” stated Deputy Toshao, Eugene Isaac.

Isaac said since the Coalition Government came into power, much development has been seen in the hinterland region, and continuance was necessary.

“This new political directorate – the Coalition – where not only one party has a say is necessary and needed. Isaac added.

Another resident, Kennard David, also expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunities given to the community’s young people, especially in the area of education.

“Thank you for what you have done for us; we greatly appreciate it,” he stated.

He also asked that more scholarships be offered to Indigenous youth. In your regard, Minister Trotman assured that through a collaboration with the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples Affairs’ this will be made possible.

“This is possible, but it will not just be given, students would have to show interest and prove themselves,” Min. Trotman stated. 

Residents also lauded the government for delivering on promises made to the community. However, urged that the matter of land titling be made a priority.

In response, Minister Trotman assured that this was top of government’s agenda.

“This, we are working on,” he assured.

The minister also expressed appreciation to the residents and welcomed their continued support of the Coalition. He also issued a challenge for them to craft their own plan of what they wanted for their community.

“Tell us what you want, we are here to listen,” Minister Trotman stated.

The minister’s visit to the community forms part of government’s way of meeting the people at grassroots level to listen to their concerns and to find solutions, as they seek ways to better serve the people.
