Trained COVID-19 personnel in Region One

− protocols in place to reduce community spread

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony says a team is on the ground in Barima-Waini (Region One) monitoring the current COVID-19 situation.

During today’s COVID-19 update, Minister Anthony said trained COVID-19 personnel are in every region collaborating on the clinical aspects of treatment, conducting contact tracing and environmental sanitation to ensure the disease is being managed.

“Initially Region One had a number of cases. In Moruca there was a spike, but you recall there was a lockdown and eventually, that number went down. Now we are seeing a lot more cases and again, we are managing to look at those villages. We have established teams working with the community leadership, educating them and urging community compliance.”

There is also a localised curfew for certain communities in the region, Minister Anthony said.

“It is all in an effort to reduce the spread to neighbouring communities. So, this is an ongoing effort, and I’m sure that after a week or two, we will see the dynamic changing again.”

With regards to treatment, Minister Anthony said this has already improved with the new ventilators being sent to each region.
