One of the main highlights of the 16th Annual Pakaraima Mountain Safari will be the overnight stop at Tuseneng Village.  This was announced today, at the expedition’s official launch.

Managing Director of Rainforest Tours and Safari Club, Frank Singh, Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe, Senior Marketing Officer, Guyana Tourism Authority, Annarie Secharan and GUYOIL’s Marketing Manager, Eric Whaul at the launch of the annual Pakaraima Mountain Safari at the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Board Room, Quamina Street.

The collaborative event, between Rainforest Tours and Safari Club, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, rolls off on March 25 and promises to be a thrilling experience.

Managing Director of Rainforest Tours and Safari Club, Frank Singh explained that this is the first time the team will be overnighting at Tuseneng to experience the North Pakaraima Exposition on March 25 and 26. Team members will experience the indigenous culture and way of life through food, arts and craft and dance and songs.

Described as ‘an adventure of a lifetime’ the 1,000-mile journey will allow participants to experience the scenic beauty of Guyana’s mountainous regions, and to establish linkages with communities across Region Eight and Nine.

The route covers stops at 14 Amerindian villages including Karassabai, Monkey Mountain, Paramatakoi and Orinduik. There will also be visits to Orinduik and Cheong Falls.

Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe said that the ministry is pleased to partner with the Safari Club in highlighting the small community of Tuseneng. She encouraged the organisers to explore the idea of adding community projects as part of their activities.

“If you can consider one village for a small project, let’s say if you have a bridge that needs building I’m sure most of the participants can handle a nail or fetch some wood or assist in some way…I think if you add a project to this experience, you will come off feeling fulfilled,” Minister Garrido-Lowe explained. The Minister also commended the organisers for upholding safety as one of the key priorities whilst maintaining the adventurous aspect of the event.

Banks DIH and the Guyana Oil Company (GUYOIL) are the main sponsors. GUYOIL’s Marketing Manager, Eric Whaul explained that the refuelling depot, that will be located at Karassabai, will be solely sponsored by the oil company using the ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), the cleanest diesel in Guyana.  This, he added, is in keeping with the ‘Green State Initiative’.

The Safari will end on April 1 in Lethem, where participants will have the opportunity to experience the Rupununi Rodeo. Some 30 vehicles and several motorcycles have already been registered to participate.
