Two constituencies in Mabaruma go to APNU

The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) party won two of the six constituencies in the Mabaruma Township at the Local Government Elections (LGE) which was held on November 12.

The official results which were released late last evening at the local Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) office stated that, APNU’s Cleveland December won Constituency Number Three (Mabaruma Township, Mabaruma Compound and Broomes Estate) with 192 votes as against the People’s Progressive Party’s (PPP) representative, Boris Singh who gained 135 votes and the Alliance For Change’s (AFC) Sandra Persaud with 13 votes.

The APNU candidate Garey James won Constituency Number Five (Kumaka) with 81 votes; beating PPP’s Mark Persaud with 73 and Victor Oselmo of the AFC with 19.

The PPP won the remaining constituencies (One, Two, Four and Six). They were able to secure four seats with a total of 1,066 votes; and the APNU two seats with 653 votes. The AFC received a total of 96 votes.

On Monday, a total of 1,808 votes were cast in the Mabaruma township and 53 ballots rejected.

This is the second time Mabaruma has participated in Local Government Elections since it was gazetted as a Town.
