UNDP Resident Representative Calls on Foreign Minister

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Jairo Valverde Bermudez, today called on Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd.

Mr. Valverde reiterated the support of the UNDP to Guyana and wished the Minister success as he took up “the daunting role of Foreign Minister”. He also extended congratulations to newly appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ms. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

“The partnership between Guyana and the UNDP is longstanding. It is an interesting time to be here. Guyana is very unique. It is an amazing opportunity to be exemplary for the world and we look forward to being a partner in that,” Mr. Valverde stated.

“We are also proud to work with the Ministry on the G-77 [Group of 77 and China] and have supported the participation of various officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” he said.

The UNDP Resident Representative also briefed the Foreign Minister on ongoing areas of collaboration, including climate change, health, and sustainable development, among others.

Minister Todd expressed his gratitude to Mr. Valverde for his continued support.

“I believe that UNDP will help us to achieve our development goals and provide better lives and standard of living for all Guyanese,” the Foreign Minister said.

The UN has long been a strong and trusted development partner of Guyana and has aided in the promotion of the implementation of the global development agenda in the country.
