DPI, Guyana, Friday, May 11, 2018

An Electoral Needs Assessment Team from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) earlier today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo at his official residence. Gabriela Patram has that report

The team is currently in the country to evaluate the current political and electoral environment in Guyana and assess the form of future UN electoral assistance. The group will recommend the kind of assistance that should be provided, as well as, the parameters and modalities that will govern this assistance.

The UN team comprised Hassan Sesay (Senior Electoral/Political Affairs Officer), Fernanda Lopes (Election/Governance Expert), Guillermo Kendall (Senior Political Affairs Officer) and accompanying the team to the courtesy call was United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme, Mikiko Tanaka.

The UNPD team’s request for an audience with the Prime Minister Nagamootoo for insight arose given his experience as a veteran of the local political scene. The group accordingly deemed his insight as invaluable to their task.
