Vice-President Jagdeo tasked with overseeing Oil & Gas, Financial Sectors

Vice-President, Hon. Bharrat Jagdeo, will be working alongside His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, in managing the Oil & Gas Sector, and overseeing the operations of the Ministry of Finance, until a substantive Minister is appointed.
Responding to questions, from the media, about his official duties as Vice-President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Jagdeo related that His Excellency had told him to oversee the Oil & Gas and in Finance sectors.
He noted that this was his responsibility includes working on budget-related issues, as the new PPP/C Government hopes to present the National Budget in twenty-one days.
Following his appointment to the Vice-Presidency position, he had stated that it was not a position he wanted but later decided to accept it because of the five-month elections crisis, the decline of the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Frankly speaking, I did not want a line portfolio, that’s why we have a Minister of Natural Resources, and we will have a Minister of Finance,” Dr. Jagdeo reiterated.
Further, he stated that when the official Gazette is published, it would state clearly, that he was assisting the President.
The new PPP/C Government of His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, officially took up office on August 2, 2020. The Head of State then appointed Dr. Jagdeo to head the Government’s transition team.
