Waramuri rebuilding waterfront through self-help

DPI, GUYANA, Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Villagers of Waramuri, Region One (Barima-Waini) are relying on self-help in the fortification of the community’s waterfront.

Toshao of Waramuri, Joan Williams.

Toshao, Joan Williams told the Department of Public Information (DPI) the village began the works in 2016, using its Jubilee Grant as financing.

“We paid for the materials to fill the gap that was there. We received full cooperation from the residents and we did it on self-help basis. Residents turned out in their numbers.”

Williams noted that the community is utilising the 2017’s Presidential Grant to continue the project. She added that the community has had to contract professionals to construct the actual revetment.

That is expected to be completed within the next two weeks Toshao Williams said. “When they finish doing that, the revetment, we will work again on self-help to refill the place there.”

The Tosaho commended the residents of Waramuri for working along with the Village Council to ensure the project is completed.

Meanwhile, Toshao Williams noted that ExxonMobil has sponsored the community’s playground. She said the $4.1M donation will go towards grading and other improvement works for the playfield.
