Warriors supporters turn out in numbers for first game of Guyana leg of CPL 2017

DPI, GUYANA, Friday, August 18, 2017

The game of Cricket has unifying powers. This was evident when the Guyana Amazon Warriors took on the Jamaican Tallawahs in the first game of the Guyana Leg of CPL 2017 on Thursday evening.

The Guyana National Stadium was packed with every hue and shade of Guyanese fans who travelled from across the country to support the home team. There was in the air the electric buzz of expectation and excitement. Warriors’ colours and Golden Arrow Head flags were on full display as sixes and fours were hit, and when wickets fell.  Despite the Warriors losing their first match of the home leg of the CPL 2017 the fans remain optimistic of their home team

Info Hub spoke with some enthusiastic cricket fans:

Javed Rahaman – “I can’t not support Guyana to the death of me, forever Guyana. Tanvir has to be my favourite player right now, you know he is all-rounder, bowling well, batting well.  Cricket has always been embedded in us from day one, it’s a Caribbean Culture, we have always been around cricket; with the Guyana team and the West Indies team we have our ups and downs no matter what we will always support them and ride with them to the end”.

Eyon Boyal-“My favourite right now is Martin Guptill and I am here to support them right through and I believe that they will win this tournament.  Cricket is we own this brings us together regardless of who we are. This is part of our culture and every time there is cricket we are always here to support our team, we give them 100 percent of our support”.

Anna Persaud-“I am from oversees and I am enjoying my stay and the game. I don’t know much about the game but I am supporting Guyana. There is so much fun and excitement here, my husband plays cricket so I am learning and I love it”.

Irvin Seetaram- “I am supporting the Warriors. Jason Mohammed is my friend and Jason Mohammed has displayed quality, patience, tenacity in the sport. So I think Jason is my favorite in this season. Cricket is a game that will always unite us because we are a hospitable nation and I will always stand by that.

Mark Young- “I have always supported the Guyana team and my player, my favorite player is Mr. Jacobs. I think he’s an outstanding Guyanese player. He’s been doing so well in the tournament so far. He’s been consistent in his bowling and I think this is his tournament. This is his year to shine and we can just see him moving on from there, probably the IPL, wherever. But I think Ridley Jacobs is the man for the Amazon Warriors this time around”.

The Warriors take on the Trinbago Knight Riders tomorrow at 12:00hours, the Barbados Tridents on August 20 at 18:00hours and the St Lucia Stars on August 22 at 18:00 hours at the Providence Stadium.

Make sure to go out in your Warriors Colours and Support!
