“We are getting there; we are preparing ourselves for oil” – PM Nagamootoo
– “you are the best example of local content in the oil and gas industry” the Prime Minister tells TOTALTEC graduates

Prime Minister, Hon. Moses Nagamootoo has described the most recent batch of graduates of the TOTALTEC Oilfield Services Guyana Incorporated Academy as the “best example of local content in the oil and gas industry”.
The Prime Minister was at the time addressing the gathering for the 5th graduation ceremony held at TOTALTEC Training Base in Houston. He congratulated the staff of the academy for contributing to what, he opined, is the most tangible manifestation of local content in the oil and gas industry.
According to Prime Minister Nagamootoo, TOTALTEC is one of the first groups that came to Guyana and promised to deliver relevant training for the country’s young people. From its origins in early 2018, the academy has developed programmes to international standards and to-date have successfully trained Guyanese for critical roles required by the oil and gas industry.
“250 Guyanese have been trained in new technologies and are being deployed simultaneously to productive paying jobs,” the Prime Minister highlighted.
The course consists of separate theory and practical base modules in basic safety awareness, occupational health and hygiene, safety and environmental best practice, emergency response, oil and gas operations, lifting operations, transport and cargo handling, and general operations; lifting and rigging, working at height, confined space entry and counterbalance forklift truck operations.
“We are getting there, we are preparing ourselves,” Prime Minister Nagamootoo emphasised.
He told the graduates that the industry is a growing one and as such, they must keep abreast with the new technologies.
Also attending the ceremony were the Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Raphael Trotman and British High Commissioner to Guyana, H.E Greg Quinn.
