‘We need to build!’
– Reg. 1 resident calls on her community to unite and work towards advancement
– urges fellow residents to value govt’s many infrastructure developments

Amina Williams, a resident of Yarakita Region 1, issued a passionate call, on Saturday, for her community to work in unison towards its advancement.

“If we communicate together, we will build… When the government helps us, and we steal from each other – that is not good,” said Williams, who has been living in Yarakita for the past 24 years.
Williams is originally from White Water. Her desire for cohesion in Yarkita rang loudest at a community engagement designed to address the concerns of residents. This engagement was attended by Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Jaipaul Sharma.
The Yarakita resident observed that many members of the community take a backseat approach to development and instead seek to point fingers when situations take an unfavourable turn. Calling for an end to this practice, Amina said, “it’s time for us to take care of things.”

The resident also commended the Coalition Government for the many investments it has made that has led to change in and around Yarakita; the primary school, health centre and newly rehabilitated highway leading to the community were some of the notable mentions.
Williams encouraged her fellow villagers to take pride in what the government has done and properly utilise equipment and buildings in the community. “We need to care. If we take care of something, we will have it for many years,” she advised. Her calls for cohesion in Yarkita struck a chord with Minister Sharma.
During his address, the minister reminded that the Public Infrastructure Ministry will continue to pursue its mandate to bridge the hinterland communities. He explained that Guyana will soon benefit from revenues from the oil gas sector, and hinterland communities will, by no means, be left behind as the country is preparing itself for rapid development.
Minister of Public Service, Hon. Tabitha Sarabo-Halley later joined Minister Sharma at the meeting. She engaged the residents on matters relating to the growth of the agricultural sector in Yarakita.
