‘White Cliff Destination’ – a tourism project underway

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, August 7, 2018

One entrepreneur is determined to boost Guyana with his new camping and relaxation resort ‘White Cliff Destination”, located on the Upper-Berbice river in Region Ten.

Businessman, Lewis Robinson says his vision is to create a relaxing and adventurous tourist destination for people living locally and foreigners. “This is a place where you will get a white sand beach and black water. It will involve camping and this will help persons to learn how to enjoy being with nature.”

He told the Department of Information (DPI) that visitors will be exposed to a number of activities including, hiking, bird watching, water sports and even sailing.

The site will be accessible by both road and water. Robinson remarked that he expects the tourism business to thrive since there is no other business like it in the area. Currently, he is focused on constructing tents and benabs on the ground. He noted that while there are numerous interests from the private sector, “it would be nice to have the government’s support on this project, so we can showcase this side of the country.”

Visiting the site, Minister of Business with responsibility for Tourism, Dominic Gaskin said he was impressed with the prospects. “I do not know what the finished product is going to look like, but certainly the natural product is quite attractive and as long as it is done nicely, I think it has the potential to attract tourists and visitors.”

He expressed delight in the project and noted that his ministry is willing to support its development.
