Wide-cross section of stakeholders declare support for Amaila project

Georgetown, GINA, July 25, 2013

Several stakeholders representing umbrella associations, networks and civil society groups, today declared their indisputable support for the Amaila Falls Hydro Power (AFHP) project, following the National stakeholder forum on the transformational project at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal.

The declaration was read by the group in which they stated that, ‘We appeal to all policy makers to engage in constructive, sincere and meaningful dialogue in order to urgently conclude the realisation of this project.”

Among the groups/bodies endorsing the project in the declaration are the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Guyana Small Business Association, The Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana,(TAAMOG)  Guyana Art and Craft Producers Association (GACPA), Region Three Chamber of Commerce, Indigenous People’s Commission (IPC),  Inter Religious Organisation (IRO), B Division Community Policing Group,  National Toshaos Council (NTC), and National Amerindian Development Foundation (NADF).

Following the opposition’s voting down of the AFHP bill and motion on July 18, several groups and segments of society have condemned the move.

 

President Donald Ramotar has since said that his Administration will not give up on the project as it is badly needed for the future development of Guyana and its people.
