“Win, lose or draw, we will continue to hold Local Government Elections whenever they fall due.”

This was expressed by President David Granger who was at the time addressing a community meeting in Rose Hall, East Berbice Corentyne on Friday afternoon.

The Head of State told residents of the East Corentyne Berbice community that Local Government Elections is about delivering services to the people, adding that it is not party politics, but rather about “satisfying people’s needs.”

“These elections are a constitutional entitlement. It is not a favour a political party can give the people,” President Granger said.

He remarked that Rose Hall has the potential to guide commercial development in Region Six. He noted that the way in which the municipality is managed is very important. Additional emphasis was placed on the upcoming LGE, which the president noted provides a “big opportunity “for Rose Hall to move forward.

“We don’t want a lackadaisical municipality… We want a democratic municipality. We want a municipality that makes Rose Hall an attractive destination for investment and commerce.”

As such, the Head of State encouraged residents to take the time to consider the candidates. They were urged to assess the needs of the community and elect a municipality which interest is in the economic development of the town.

“Local Government Elections empowers you to make decisions which are in the best interest of your community and yourself.”

President Granger reiterated that the purpose of Local Government Elections (LGE) is “about solving problems and providing services to the people”.

The Head of State reiterated that as long as he holds the post of President, Local Government Elections (LGE) will be held when they are due.

He encouraged residents to turn out in their numbers on November 12, 2018, and vote for candidates they deem eligible to represent the needs and wants of the community.
