“You have the power in your hand”

– PM encourages Region Six residents to elect committed leaders at LGE

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, September 15, 2018

At a community meeting in Whim, Corentyne Berbice on Saturday, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo encouraged residents to actively participate in the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The Prime Minister told the residents that they have the opportunity to elect a leader who can foster development within their village. He urged them to “look in your communities for these people who are dedicated, who show an interest in your affairs,” and elect a ‘fit and proper’ candidate.”

Residents were reminded that if they are dissatisfied with the performance of the councillors who represent them, the ability to elect a suitable candidate lies with them.

“You have the power in your hand to replace them, put new leaders, people with energy, people with commitment, with dedication, people who will look after your interest and not those who help themselves,” the Prime Minister underscored.

“This revolution in Guyana is not going to a be a revolution from the top up, this revolution will be a revolution from bottom up,” Prime Minister Nagamootoo remarked. He noted through this process, communities will be reformed and extension the society.

Minister of Public Security Kkemraj Ramjattan also held outreaches today in Skeldon and Rose Hall where he too encouraged residents to participate in the upcoming LGE.

Following the Coalition’s assumption to office in 2015, Local Government Elections were held for the first time on March 2016 after a 22-year break. This year’s LGE are due to be held on November 12.
