Youths urged to take advantage of opportunities at Linden annual career fair

Director of Youth, Melissa Carmichael

Region 10 youths were given the opportunity to explore their future goals at the Ministry of Education’s annually sponsored career fair.

At the opening of the event at the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) on Wednesday, Director of Youth Melissa Carmichael urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity presented to explore their future options.

“You (students) may ask why we (Ministry of Education) have this fair, just to see organisations set up booths; you are even wondering the reason for more career fairs. So I am here to let you know that because the Education Ministry cares for the youths, not only in Region Four, but also in Region Ten, we want to help you to start, to begin somewhere and by exposing you to all of the organisations represented here. Today, we give you the opportunity to choose to start making decisions to say whether one career or the other may fit you,” the youth director explained.

She noted that the career fair is just one of the many opportunities that the Education Ministry will provide for the benefit of the youths.

Carmichael urged the youths to exercise their rights and enquire about the requirements to become eligible for any of the organisations that they wish to apply to, instead of passing the booths aimlessly since they will become the nation’s future decision makers.

The youth director highlighted that the Education Ministry will continue to work assiduously to provide opportunities for youths’ benefit. She noted that the works will be under the leadership of the Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry.

Meanwhile, Region Ten Regional Chairman, Renis Morian suggested that the students be given guidance in their respective schools before entering their career choices.  The Regional Chairman noted that this decision will help direct the students to their goals based on their strengths and abilities.

“Students, I ask of you to make use of this opportunity as you go around to the various booths to formulate in your mind where you want to be, and how you want to get there, and I am saying to you, that the sky is the limit. Many of you might be coming from a single parent home, things might not be what you want  them to be, but that should not hinder you from reaching the stars,” the regional chairman noted.

Morian also encouraged the students to establish a backup career plan in case their original plan does not materialise.
