22,000 street lights installed across Guyana- Min Edghill

Twenty-two thousand street lights have already been installed across Guyana under the government’s 100,000 street lighting initiative.

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, provided the update during the Palmyra to Moleson Creek public consultation on Tuesday.

“We are now installing street lights in communities, not just along main roads,” he said. “As of last Monday, more than 22,000 lights have been installed in the various areas where works are ongoing across the country. A significant number of those were installed in Berbice.”

The street lights are also expected to be fitted with traffic cameras, further strengthening security across communities.

The street lighting programme is a critical component of the government’s efforts to bolster public safety. By improving visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, the initiative aims to reduce the frequency of road accidents.

Minister Edghill explained that all installations are being carried out under the supervision of certified electricians and licensed contractors to ensure safety and quality standards.
