Gas-to-Energy Project advancing steadily – PM Phillips

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips has reaffirmed that Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy (GTE) Project at Wales, Region Three, is moving ahead at a steady pace, with major construction activities set to commence in the coming weeks.

Following a site visit on Thursday, the Prime Minister reported notable progress since his last inspection in January, underscoring the government’s commitment to delivering reliable and affordable energy to Guyanese.

He was accompanied by the chairman of the U.S. Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, John Jovanovic, and the United States ambassador to Guyana, Her Excellency Nicole Theriot.

The preparatory works are advancing as planned, with the installation of piping expected to commence within approximately two weeks. This next phase will follow the completion of pipe racks and ongoing foundation works.

Additionally, the project’s workforce is expected to grow significantly, reaching approximately 1,100 workers in the near term, with peak employment projected between 1,400 and 1,600 workers.

To support this expansion, systems have been put in place to accommodate workers operating on 12-hour shifts.

The Gas-to-Energy Project remains a cornerstone of the government’s energy strategy, which is aimed at reducing electricity costs and supporting Guyana’s economic development.
