House adopts 6th Periodic Report on Natural Resources

– safe mining practices being upheld – Min. Bulkan

The Sixth Periodic Report of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Natural Resources was, this evening, adopted by the National Assembly. The report signifies that safe mining practices are being carried out in the selected mining areas, according to Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, who brought the motion. The report covers the period March 2017 to April 2018 and was laid in the National Assembly on December 6, 2018.

Minister Bulkan said that during the reporting period under review of the committee, six meetings were convened. There were two field visits that were held during the period March and April of 2017 led by Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.

Minister Bulkan told the House that three presentations were made by Minister Trotman in July 2017, and February and April 2018. Additionally, during the period under review, Members of the Committee made two field visits.

The purpose of the visit to Isseneru he said was to tour the mining sites and ensure that miners were complying with laws and regulations related to safe mining.

Discussions on occupational health and safety conditions were also done along with a meeting conducted with the Isseneru committee and residents. The purpose of the visit to Aurora was to have a realistic view of mining practices. The tour was deemed fruitful and very productive.

Similarly, the Fifth Periodic Report of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Natural Resources was also adopted by the National Assembly.
