Novice walks on the wild side

Participates in thrilling ‘Bull Taunting’ at Rodeo

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, April 21, 2019

Shane D’ Andrade, a tour operator with Savannah Drive tours, took a walk on the wild side on when he participated in the thrilling ‘Bull Taunting’ at this year’s rodeo.

In the event that was open to all brave persons, the participants are seated at a table drinking beers in the center of the rodeo ground. At some point, a wild bull is released which normally would cause persons to run for safety. However, the objective of this contest is to see who can remain sitting the longest, unmoved by the wild bull in the arena.

Shane D’ Andrade gets thrown by the bull in the hair-raising Bull Taunting event at the Rupununi Rodeo.

Shane was confident that he could remain steadfast by being fearless however, he was the first to be knocked over by the bull when it was released. When asked why he would risk his life by taking such a chance he said it was just all a part of having fun. This was Shane’s first time at a Rodeo and he thought it best to really be immersed in as many activities taking place hence, he registered for the beer run.

“I’m an adventurer, I promote off-road riding, off-road driving and I saw it as a good opportunity to test myself. If there is any fear out there, I would take it out; I did not expect the bull to hit me. I was holding the chair so even if it did hit me or the table or anyone else’s the chair would have been there but the bull hit me directly in my ribs and though I held the chair it fell apart.” he explained.

For Shane, being at Rodeo this year has led him to realise how much Lethem has transformed and the fact that more persons need to be exposed to unique Rupununi Rodeo experience.

“It’s not the first time for me in Lethem, but experiencing the rodeo yes! It’s about 15 years and Lethem has changed a lot from fifteen years to now and it is amazing. The trip is wonderful… I will always come to rodeo because I am a tour operator and it’s a good opportunity and I will try to encourage as many people as possible to come to rodeo. This is something you must come and see, must come and experience. Next year I will try to have as many people as possible join the Savannah Drive team.”
