Online passport rollout imminent

The government of Guyana is moving closer to launching an online passport service as part of a broader push to digitise public services.

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Wednesday indicated that key components of the system are currently being finalised, including arrangements for biometric processing.

“There are a number of things that have to be completed… they are now completing that relationship, and within a month, we should be closer to that,” the head of state said.

The initiative forms part of a wider national digital transformation agenda aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility for citizens locally and abroad.

The president explained that the online passport system will be integrated with other advanced platforms, including the national payment system and emerging e-wallet services.

He noted that Guyana is rapidly modernising its digital infrastructure, with improvements already in areas such as immigration processing and the delivery of government services online.

“We are moving at great speed with the digitisation,” President Ali said, highlighting positive public feedback on the existing platforms.

The rollout of online passport services is expected to significantly reduce processing time and enhance convenience for Guyanese, particularly those residing overseas.
