Regatta a resounding success – Mayor Marshall
―Small businesses see good turnover
DPI, Guyana, Monday, April 22, 2019
With this year’s Bartica Regatta attracting hundreds to the town large and small business operators received a bump in their revenues.
The Department of Public Information (DPI) team spoke to several of the small vendors to gauge how profitable the holiday week was for them.
“Business was good, very good,” said Ms. Sita who operated a food stall during the Bartica Regatta. Sita who resides between Georgetown and Bartica took advantage of the grand Easter weekend in Region Seven to ply her trade. She said Easter Sunday and Monday were very busy days at her stall. “People like the Brazilian food I prepare,” she said.
Another vendor, Conan Bell, who operated a well put-together cocktail bar, said both days were fast and exciting. “Our business has been around four years now and every year we strive to make it better. This year business has been really good.”
Courtney Douglas who operated a face painting business for children said Easter Sunday was definitely his day. While Jermaine Joseph, a teacher by profession, also threw his hat in the mix and operated a beverage stall this year. “Business was good, very busy, I can do this again,” he stated.
Later, as the DPI team caught up with Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall, the business community came in for praises for its support of the annual event. “I just want to say thanks to central government and the business community for their support, Bartica Regatta 2019 is a resounding success.”
The Mayor said all the activities hosted this weekend received maximum participation from the local community and visitors from across the country. He sent wishes to President David Granger, on behalf of the people of Bartica for a speedy recovery, adding that Bartica missed his presence this year.
President Granger has attended and declared Bartica Regatta open for the last three years.
