DPI, GUYANA, Wednesday, May 16, 2018

The La Harmony community located on the Demerara River in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) received a newly commissioned ramp on Tuesday, May 15.

Regional Executive Officer (REO) Denis Jaikaran J.P told the Department of Public Information that this initiative is timely. He said, “The residents were having a hard time getting to and from their community, and once this matter was brought to our attention the administration made provision to execute this construction of the ramp.”

The Bonasika Police Outpost also reopened the same day. Closed since 2008 due to its dilapidated state, the renovated structure is now manned by a police corporal, two regular ranks and three neighbourhood police who also reside in the Bonasika community.

According to Regional Information Officer, Ganesh Mahipaul, Divisional Commander ‘D’ Division Senior Superintendent Rishi Das along with Deputy Superintendent Patrick Todd and other ranks visited the outpost to ensure everything was in place, including a boat and engine.

Mahipaul said that the reopening of the outpost has been long-awaited by the residents, as it provides them security, it also brings relief to the force previously attending to the community.  The Bonasika Outpost was commissioned in 1985.
